4. SPORT COURT
The Rules:
1)
Absolutely no wheels on the courts. This means no skateboards, rollerblades, roller
skates, skooters or ripsticks. The surface tiles can be crushed when metal or other hard objects are slammed
on it.
2) No climbing on the nets.
This will compromise the tension system
3) No
climbing on the large net rebounder, it is not meant for climbing
4)
No hanging on the basketball hoop. This will eventually compromise the stability of the unit.
5) No basketball or other sports on the tennis
court side. The tennis court surface is designed (specially for tennis) to be soft and acceptable for sneakers
and a tennis balls only.
6) No pets
7) The tennis court and sport court is closed after dark.
8) Neighborly courtesy is asked for all those sharing the two surfaces at the same
time. When residents are playing tennis, the other sports should be contained on the sport court surface.
Sports and Games that can be played
on the new Sport Court side:
1) Paddle tennis
- Four paddles and special paddle tennis balls are located in the sports bin next to the court. Please
return when finished
Easy to learn & play.
2) Basketball – Raise or lower the
hoop height to your own level of play. Bring your own ball or use one of the balls donated to the sports bin.
3) Shuffleboard – Shuffleboard sticks and pucks are provided
in the sports bin and hanging on the fence. Please return when finished.
4) Four Square – A favorite on school playgrounds, this
game can be played with two or four players at a time. A regular playground kickball should be used.
WR purchased two balls, which should be kept in the sports bin. Ask your kids how to play!
5) Volleyball – The net system was
designed to be raised and lowered for multiuse functions. Raise it to the highest level for volleyball.
We recommend that an adult assist in raising and lowering the net.
You will need to bring your own volleyball to play.
6) Tennis – Of course
tennis can be played on the sport court surface just like on the traditional tennis court surface. The
sport tiles are a softer surface, which is a good surface for folks with knee and joint problems.
7) Net Rebounder – The slow return
action of the net rebounder is perfect for hitting a tennis ball, throwing a lacrosse ball, kicking a soccer ball or throwing
a softball into. The large surface provides a great target from a distance.
8) Tennis Backboard – The hard surface
backboard is best used with a tennis ball or paddle tennis ball. This surface will return the ball with
much higher speed, which is great when you want to get a great one- person workout with a racket. The backboard
is not recommended for lacrosse or other hard balls.
9)
Badminton – Again the net system has a variety of heights to choose from, so raise it to the middle
and it is the perfect height for Badminton. You will need to bring your own equipment for this game.
10) Toddler
Playtime – Let your imagination go with this. We encourage bouncing balls of any kind on the Sport
Court. Feel free to let your children run and play safely within the fenced in area.
The
Game
The basic
idea of the game is to hit the shuttlecock so that it lands on your opponent’s side of the court within the boundaries
after your serve. This gives you a point. You also get points when your opponent hits the shuttlecock out of bounds, or breaks
a rule, if it was your serve. If you rack up 21 points, you win the game. Three games make a match. The winner is
the best of three matches.
A rally is begun when a player serves the ball from the service court.
The first serve must land within the opposite
service box, after that the play is within the entire service area. Execute a serve by holding the shuttle in your fingertips,
arm extended straight in front of you, then hit the shuttle with an underhand racket swing that begins from behind your back
parallel to the ground. When the score is even, serve from the right service court and from the left when the score is odd.
When the server fails to score, it is the opponent’s turn to serve.
Once the rally is begun, you can hit
the shuttlecock with overhand, underhand, and sidearm strokes, as well as blocking strokes, hairpin drop shots, and smashes.
Rules
Badminton rules are detailed, but these are the basics to get started:
1.If the game is tied 20-all, continue playing
until one side has a two point lead, up to 30 points.
2.Switch sides after each game.
3.Each side only gets one strike to get the shuttlecock over
the net.
4.Only
the server can gain points.
5.A “let” is allowed for external disturbances to the game, and the serve is replayed.
6.The shuttle is allowed to touch the net
during play without fault or stopping the rally, if it continues over. During a serve, if the shuttle hits the net then falls
in the proper service court, it is a let.
7.Players cannot reach over the net with their racket to hit the birdie.
The shuttle must make one contact with
the racket – it cannot be carried, or allowed to come to rest on the head before being thrown.
5. PLAYGROUND 1. Use at your own risk.
2. Use for residents and their guests only.
3. An adult should accompany young children
at all times.
4. Dispose of all trash in provided trash bin.
6. TENNIS COURT1. Play at your own risk.
2. Court is for use by Western Ridge residents and Stonegate full-facility Members only. Guests must be accompanied
by a resident while using the courts.
3. Shirts and court shoes should be worn at all times.
4. Please keep playing time to an hour if others are waiting for a court.
5. No animals,
except those assisting disabled persons, are allowed on the tennis courts.
6. Clear rocks / gravel
from area prior to play. This will help discourage wear of court. The grounds crew tries to mow away from the courts, but
some gravel inevitably ends up on the courts between mowers, cars, and shoes.
7. Secure gate when
leaving.
8. Tennis courts are for playing tennis only. No skate boarding, bike
riding, roller blading, etc. These are not all-purpose courts. Activities other than tennis can cause premature wear and damage
to the courts.
7. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Q: Are there any
fees for using the clubhouse or bringing guests to the pool?
A: Not at this time. However, this
may become necessary in the future.
Q: We have a nanny, adult babysitter, relative, etc. who
stays with our child during the day. Can he/she bring them to the pool?
A: Yes, but if the child
is under 13 years of age, the supervisor must be at least 16 years of age or older and must be aware of the pool rules.
Q: I would like to bring a guest to the pool. Do I need a guest pass?
A:
No. Since guests should never be unaccompanied at the pool, there is no need for guest passes. Guests should be
accompanied at all times by the resident they are visiting.
Q: How will the pool rules be enforced?
A: A successful pool season depends on all of us. Many residents commented previously that they
felt unable to exert authority over unruly behavior due to the lack of specific rules. Now that we have them, we need
to use them. When a lifeguard is present, he/she will be responsible for enforcing pool policy. At other times
it will be up to each resident to encourage proper pool behavior. Parents of disruptive children will be contacted if
consistently poor behavior is exhibited. Consistency is critical to the success of this plan. We will have to
evaluate the system as we go along and make changes as needed.
Q: To whom do I report problems
with the clubhouse, tennis courts, and/or fitness room?
A: Facilities Chairman or any WROA board member.
